Fried Eggs Concept

A fried eggs layout I was working on a few weeks ago. You can probably notice some of the design cues that were updated from this mock-up like the new background colors and some of the sidebar elements.

Stillthinking

Stillthinking Greatly improved. Still don't love the color scheme. I feel like the page is still really WASHED out, but considering that most people will probably post their own background image, it's fine.

TheBoo

TheBoo I think it places a tad too much emphasis on the following/follower count by placing it on top and in large bold print. People might start to consider that the point of this site, much like is currently the case on twitter, rather than being the social media site it is now.

Other than that I like it :)

timethief I like the subdued blue because it compliments almost any background we may choose as opposed to competing with it.

TN9Design

TN9Design yea, the reason I even mocked this up was because I wanted to play with something that was more color neutral so that people could customize more. This was kind of an early sketch of ideas...

timethief Hmmm ... I think TheBoo has made a good point about the following & follower numbers. I'm even wondering whether or not those need to be publicly displayed at all. What do others think of minimizing the emphasis on and impact of the numbers by changing their placement? What do others think about making the number become "private"?

TN9Design I just want to re-iterate that these are old concepts that never got developed. Think of them as just sketches on a drawing board.

The follower count is useful though, it helps you figure out someones credibility. If someone you dont know follows you, you go to their page to check them out and see that they are following 2,000 people but are only being followed by 2 then you know that they are just out to find followers. Someone with the opposite follow/follower ratio (you would assume) would be someone that may not follow many people but is followed by a lot because the things they say must be interesting.

It's kind of a generalization but it does show how the following/followers being public can be helpful.

infurl I agree with TheBoo on this one, plus I like the site the way it is. It's supposed to be the members' contributions that matter so the moment anyone starts noticing the site design, you have to assume that you're doing it wrong.

TheBoo

TheBoo Yea, I'd agree with TN9. I wouldn't like for it to be private either. I'd just rather it not be the main in-your-face feature of someone's profile.

infurl What about weighting the follower/following numbers using an algorithm similar to Google's page ranking algorithm? e.g. A follower of yours who has lots of followers of their own would add more to your rank than a follower who has few followers or their own.

infurl Ok, it's time I removed my tongue from my cheek. You got me. ;)

numby

numby ...can you make the comment box default to the full width of the white portion of the page? Using Firefox, I can't stretch it, and it would make what people typed appear more efficiently...Am I to guess it currently defaults to handheld width?...maybe detection...(?)
