As much as I do enjoy visiting the homepage to see if there is anyone new talking on FriedEggs...
When I browse the site I keep clicking the logo in the top corner thinking its going to send me to my home/feed only to be re-directed to the site homepage instead.
Sadly, I am conditioned to click the logo to get to my main page... you would think I would learn after doing this over and over... I wonder if anyone else has this problem.

unknown it would be nice to live in a world where things behaved as you expected.

markgeller That is the only way for a new member to get content and find other members once signed on. Otherwise they are left with a blank home page and a search box (which does not search members). So, I guess for now, it serves a purpose functioning in that fashion.

tonyberkman what alternatives do we have? i enjoy the home page too, though if Im a new user how do I easily connect with other users, especially if I want to comment on an article from the home page? or if I am a member, and want to see what the most recent posts are, what are alternative ways to see the home page topics? One suggestion that I have is to have the view at the top of your profile and x it out if you don't want to see it anymore.

BiggJ how can I see a list of all users?

TN9Design Well no one else has complained so I assume I am in the minority here. It seems like the way it is now works for the time being.
I have some sign up process mock ups that help guide users to finding friends and posts that we should implement eventually as well as having additional ways to find people via the friends tab in settings

unknown @jaybetee the same way you do on twitter

markgeller How should a new user find friends on friedeggs in its current format?
4/07/10
TN9Design at the moment... just through @replies and user comments.

unknown you can find friends at http://friedeggs.com/account/friends as well

tonyberkman @ithinkdancan, that's cool. I never noticed it though as I don't believe I have been back to the account settings. Perhaps it should be in the welcome email?

tonyberkman Twitter has a human finder

tonyberkman there are differences in finding people here than on twitter. a number of people have said things about finding people on friedeggs and getting started. twitter recommends some people on sign up. they also give you the option of inviting people you know from other networks. They also have a Search People in their top nav. I am not suggesting we do those things though there is a gap between what we do and what twitter does. There also is a need to enable members to more easily find people to follow : at least when they first sign up. This is more so, if we assume that many people who find FriedEggs may never have used Twitter.

TN9Design Well the finder via sign-up is a big help but I think that the real advantage here above something like twitter will eventually be the comments. As like minded people tend to hang out together I think seeing the friends of your friend commenting is going to be the most interesting way of finding strangers in the future.

markgeller The goal should be to lower the barrier to entry in an effort to maximally engage new users. Not suggesting that I have the answer, just asking folks to think about it. One cannot assume that all new users will be able to navigate the site in its current form. Some good suggestions above.

tonyberkman lowering the barrier to connecting with friends should be a goal. so that when a user signs up and they know their friends have signed up too, it should be easy to find them. right now, im not sure it is. i had a difficult time finding jacob, trish and michael. mark was easy as he speaks a lot

markgeller Agreed, I mean about connecting to friends, not that I speak a lot.

timethief The only thing that's disturbing me is that my posts made at freideggs do not appear on the front page. The reasons I am here are twofold. (1) To renew old friendships. (2) To meet new bloggers and form friendships with them. The friends I give my FE profile page URL to do find me after joining. But how will new people who join ever do so if my posts do not appear on the front page along with those of other members?
And why are my posts being treated differently than the other members posts are being treated? Why don't I get the full benefit of freideggs? I just don't get it and any help you can offer will be appreciated. :(
To me this is an important question that needs an answer but as @friedeggsfix does not follow anyone we cannot durect message. I did post on this but my post did not appear on the front page even though it did appear on twitter.
