infurl Do human beings exhibit selfless compassion for others the way other animal species do?

GreenLady7 I've seen this before, and found the heroism of the second dog quite remarkable, but not unique. In my search through the internet for such videos, have seen so many instances of animal bravery and love in circumstances which would have had humans "turning tail" and running away. How many of us would dash out into traffic like that to save a friend?

Theresa111 I was a lifeguard and had to go in and save. It was only for a summer but, once a lifeguard, always a lifeguard. I have been watching over others for so long. I might just have to go in. Sometimes I surprise myself. Hopefully I won't have any more tests.

markgeller Another recent example - Alaskan dog honored last week for leading state troopers to its house which was engulfed in flames http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FTwMaR2scY

markgeller Amazing! Tears at heart strings. And just a couple of days ago in NYC people walked around a man dying on the sidewalk after he was stabbed coming to the aid of a woman who was being mugged. He died on the street.

TheBoo @Jayme - Thanks for sharing, was kind of depressing though... no happy ending there. :(
@markgeller - that same incident was what led me to post this video that I'd remembered seeing several months ago. It pretty much had me asking the same question @infurl asked earlier in this thread.
