Stillthinking Not necessarily true. In Illinois, most townships have chose to remove red light cameras and there is a legislation seeking to BAN red light cameras. Why? Because most red light cameras are operated not by local jurisdictions, but contractors who make a percentage from every ticket issued. There was a scandal here when an employee from one of these companies came forward and ADMITTED that the cameras were rigged to make the driver appear to be crossing on red when in fact, they were clearing the intersection on yellow.

The village of Schaumburg removed their red light cameras after finding that minor traffic accidents INCREASED rather than decreased at the single intersection that had been chosen as the pilot for the red light camera program.
