This incident has caused quite a stir in our area. A Philadelphia Phillie fan ran onto the field during a baseball game. He was "subdued"
by the police wih a Taser. It seems the majority of sports radio callers favor the way the situation was handled citing the unknown potential hazard to police and players. Others, apparently the minority, feel the force was excessive. What do you think?

Butterose It was excessive. Stanford University did a study and concluded that tasers should be used only under the same circumstances where the use of lethal force would be necessary. Despite use under stun only settings, tasers are deadly weapons. They should not be used to intentionally cause pain or to punish an offender. That police department appears to need some further training in their use. If the officer would not have shot the kid with a gun, then why use a taser?

Theresa111 I refuse to view this because I really abhor cruelty, but I am certain the force was excessive. Even being volt jolted one time would put most people out! Remove all tasers please.

BiggJ the guy who did it the following night was someone I knew from high school...jackasses.

nothingprofound Excessive force, and totally unnecessary. The young man was not armed, and could easily have been restrained and removed from the field by any competent police officer.

askcherlock It was excessive force used by an Officer who looked completely out of shape. Tasers should be reserved as weapons of last resort unless life is being threatened. That was certainly not the case here. Dreadful lack of proper training.

markgeller Still burning up the air waves 4 days later. I am surprised by the number of people who are so pro the way this turned out. The sheer spectacle is stunning (no pun intended). If there, I would have shielded my kids eyes. I think we collectively are getting a little numb to these types of scenes. Why?

nothingprofound People take their sports too seriously, in this case baseball. That this young man was brutally treated means less than that the game was interrupted.

scribadiva Notice that "every one's hair on fire" has changed to "thrown under the bus." I've written a post on this; what happens if your loved one is "really" thrown under the bus? Language inures us; that's why torture on the TV show 24 is never challenged. Torture is one of my issues; change the language, and possible settings, lie, esp. as intellectual dishonesty...I'm sorry I'm taking too much room. I saw this already; were you pressured to take it down, and by whom?
