    askcherlock

askcherlock Having taught high school English I also integrated as part of the course, a segment on Public Speaking. The students cringed and most were nervous. I always told them to focus on the message they wanted to get across and that it needed to be tailored to the audience. I think the premise of that might be very similar to the "user" concept and the "objective" of the message content. The eye contact, upon which my students were critiqued, is similar to the design discussed here. Where does the designer want the focus of the reader to be? Just some parallel thoughts...

  13. tonyberkman Why don't all designers and developers create for humans?

"Interface design is when one is designing something that will be used by humans. The understanding of how a user thinks, learns and adapts is important knowledge.

    scribadiva

scribadiva I suspect the lack of id design in design school is much the same as being a sociology major, without understanding politics of identity, what's known as identity politics, or more frequently, political sociology. that is race, gender, color, and where you yourself fit. I spent 5 years on my thesis on id politics. I think the augmentation of your field in that direction would be taught at the school I went to, but no one should leave high school, or at most, college, without that understanding as well as critical thinking. People go to Harvard Law for critical thinking? They shouldn't be accepted without it.

  18. Sebastyne The website of International Glaucoma Societies has made the list of the worst web design mistakes in 1995-2015. That's an achievement.

What is even funnier is that Glaucoma is an eye condition that eventually leads to blindness. I know, because it runs in the family. I wonder if the site designers trust that all the visitors are already blind, or are hey sadists that think that it will be funny to waste the last seeing days…
